For every Australian teenager
In 2020, Run Against Violence partnered with NAPCAN to help expand the reach and impact of Love Bites, a school-based program that gives young Australians the tools to build healthy, violence-free relationships.
Funds raised through the Broken Hill to Sydney Team Chase support facilitator training, program delivery, development of new tools and adaptations, and a Grants Program that helps bring Love Bites to communities without the resources to train local facilitators.
Founded in 1987, NAPCAN is Australia’s first secular organisation dedicated solely to preventing child abuse and neglect before it starts. What began with a small group of passionate volunteers has grown into a national organisation working with governments, businesses, communities, and families to create safer environments for children and young people across Australia.
We Invest Four Ways
Facilitator Training
NAPCAN trains local facilitators who deliver Love Bites directly in schools and communities. These
facilitators lead respectful relationships workshops, equipping young people with the skills and
knowledge to build safe, healthy relationships and prevent violence before it starts.
Program Infrastructure
Investment helps build the critical infrastructure that supports Love Bites, including a national
community hub, trauma-informed training, and tools to measure the program’s impact. This ensures the program remains effective and responsive to the needs of young people and communities.
Community Adaptations
Love Bites is adapted to reflect the needs of diverse communities, including First Nations, CALD,
and remote communities. These adaptations ensure that young people across the country can access respectful relationships education regardless of background, culture, or location.
RAV Grants Program
Funded through the Broken Hill to Sydney Team Chase, RAV Grants help expand the program’s
reach, particularly in areas with high needs. The grants support both new programs and the
continuation of existing ones, with a focus on funding facilitator training in the communities that
need it most.
